“A teacher affects eternity: he can never tell where his influence stops.” Most of us would agree with this quote from American historian Henry Brooks Adams. All over the world, teachers serve a vital role in shaping young lives and thus developing future generations. Numbering almost 60 million, teachers make up the world’s largest group of trained professionals. Despite their importance, teachers often don’t receive the professional support they need to do their jobs effectively. Teachers in many parts of the world rarely even have a chance to meet with other teachers and share ideas. The organization Teachers Without Borders (TWB) intends to change that. Dr. Fred Mednick, a former teacher and principal, founded TWB in order to promote global education. Dr. Mednick believes in connecting local teachers to information and to each other. TWB seeks to create teacher communities locally, nationally and internationally. It also empowers and assists teachers by providing them with resources to teach more effectively. With more than 6,000 members in 180 countries, TWB is a truly international organization.
