Every October, hundreds of colorful hot air balloons fill the skies of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Visitors come from around the world to watch the beautiful balloons drift through the autumn air. The Balloon Fiesta began in 1972 with only 13 balloons in a parking lot. Today, it exhibits more than 700 balloons, making it the largest ballooning event on Earth. It is also the most photographed event on Earth. The balloons are launched throughout the day, beginning before dawn.
In the daylight, guests can see balloons that have unique shapes. At night, viewers are treated to a magical display as balloons are lit from their burners. However, the biggest events of the fiesta are the mass ascensions. During these events, all the participating balloons are lunched at once, filling the sky with a burst of colors. The graceful giants create a truly beautiful sight as they float through the sky. A visit to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a truly colorful experience.
