Objects in the British Museum tell the story of human history

Those interested in human history need not travel the world in pursuit of it as a large collection of artifacts lies in one location – the British Museum. According to the museum itself, its collections “…tell the story of cultural achievement throughout the world, from the dawn of human history … until the present day.” The immense museum displays just part of its huge collection – 8 million objects – in its 4 kilometers of galleries.
All the objects tell something about human history, but some can be singled out as prime examples of the ways humans long ago shaped their world. British Museum Director Neil MacGregor selected 100 manmade objects for A History of the World in 100 Objects, his book that tells humankind’s story using those objects. Here are a few of those objects that give insight into the development of human civilization.
Early Writing Tablet
